Men's community choir in Forres, Moray
With David Harrison & Bill Henderson
OUR NEW TERM starts on Tuesday 21st August 2018
New singers are always welcome and their first week is free !!! What joy is this !!!
This group is now well established and is enjoying singing a wide range of music from Beach Boys and Housemartins to Maori, South African and Georgian songs and lots more besides.
There are no auditions and no need to be able to read music. We are delighted with the rich, deep, resonant sounds we are making and there is no doubt that there is something very different and special about singing together just as a bunch of men.
NEW SINGERS ALWAYS WELCOME !!
Bill Henderson: “ This choir was inspired by the Spooky Men's Chorale from Australia and reminds me of my time in a men's choir in Wales. There is something special about men singing together — like a rugby club without the mud. ”

WHAT IS A COMMUNITY CHOIR?
A community choir is a singing group that is open to anyone irrespective of supposed musical prowess or training. The emphasis is on fun and the joy of singing together and also on building a sense of community and friendship through singing together.
There are no auditions and no mystique about the process of singing. Learning is always by ear rather than by printed music. We mostly sing in a circle instead of in chorus formation – this allows everyone to hear and enjoy the harmonies for themselves, rather than songs being rehearsed entirely for the benefit of an audience. We do however “share” some of our songs in public but this is not our primary focus.
PRAISE FOR SOUNDS DEEP
“ Hearing men on their own, I am able to really appreciate the range of the masculine voice, the strength and the tenderness that can be expressed. This group of men sing a love song from Croatia with such feeling that the two lovers in the song become visible in the mind's eye. ”
( Findhorn website review, EarthSings conference, Choir Night, 30 March 2013 )
SINGING AND HEALTH
The health and well-being benefits of music in general, live music in particular, and singing even more so, are now being more and more widely accepted, acknowledged and appreciated. An increasing body of scientific research is confirming that singing is good for us. In the coming years, as more emphasis will have to be put in health practice on prevention, singing in choirs will come higher up the health agenda than it has been so far.
“ I believe in singing. I believe in singing together. I believe that singing is the key to long life, a good figure, a stable temperament, increased intelligence, new friends, super self-confidence, heightened sexual attractiveness, and a better sense of humor. ”
British composer, artist and activist, Brian Eno was a founding member of the rock group Roxy Music, and has produced recordings by Talking Heads and U2.
